An Egg for All

Today was Easter! We have spent a very full two days now as a family, celebrating the dawn of Spring at Easter time and remembering that our Savior, Jesus Christ, was Resurrected.
Yesterday we went to Lauritzen Botanical Gardens (just down the street from our townhouse,) to their Easter Extravaganza. Lexie and Gavin were able to meet the Easter Bunny and do some cute Easter crafts. It was a bit cold, so we shivered our way as we walked through the gardens to the egg hunt area. The kids had fun running to find eggs, and we were glad to go back inside afterward where it was warm! Then Village Green had an egg hunt and crafts and treats in the afternoon. It even snowed a little on us, so we hurried back home, but had a nice time all the same in the cold. With Easter being so early this year, you never know what the weather will do. It was in the 30’s both days, but it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow! I just miss having spring flowers out for Easter… everything is still pretty brown around here. We went to a cute family movie last night and then out to dinner, a very full day!

Today Easter dawned a beautiful, but still chilly, day. The kids checked out what the Easter Bunny brought them for a little bit before church. We had a nice set of church meetings today, and I have been singing my favorite Easter hymn all day: “He is Risen.” I think it is so beautiful, and shares such a triumphant jubilance for the Resurrection of our Lord:
“He is risen! He is risen!

Tell it out with joyful voice.

He has burst his three days’ prison;

Let the whole wide earth rejoice.

Death is conquered; man is free.

Christ has won the victory…
He is risen! He is risen!

He hath opened heaven’s gate.

We are free from sin’s dark prison,

Risen to a holier state.

And a brighter Easter beam

On our longing eyes shall stream.”

And so amidst all the Easter bunnies and chickies and candies, etc., I tried to remind my lovely darlings how important Easter is because of our Savior. Lexie has understood, and knew how to answer all my questions with the right answers. After our dinner, we read about Easter from scriptures that we have prepared in Easter eggs with an object in each to help young children associate the account of Christ’s Atonement, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. Although the kids are young (and were quite hyper,) I think they learned from it.
After church Lexie and Gavin enjoyed a fun egg hunt for the eggs the Easter Bunny hid around the living room, then we had a nice French Toast Easter brunch. After a relaxing afternoon, we shared a roast beef dinner and our Easter egg scriptures. We finished off with a call to Grandma and Grandpa Berhold, and it was a great day! We have Easter eggs coming out our ears, in many sizes and colors and decorations. Some are filled with candy and some with little toy surprises. But the most important one is the one that has nothing in it. It is empty to represent the tomb, “for He is not here, He is Risen.” (Matthew 28:6)

Here we are as a family on Easter. I usually have an outside shot, but it was so cold and bright! So this was just at home. (Yes, the big white pregnant blob is me! I was looking pretty swollen after eating too much salt throughout the weekend.)
